Biography
I would label myself as a creative photographer and tend to prefer the more artistic approach to photography. I now concentrate only in this area. Generally I regard the image capture as the first step in the creative process and any postproduction work is in my view of equal importance. Like most other photographers my workflow is now totally digital. However there are many techniques I use today that have similarities to the earlier chemical processes that may have been used in the traditional darkroom. The massive opportunities that digital technology has brought to photography have certainly helped me to be more creative. To some extent I will now use the original camera image as my canvas and the digital tools within the software as implements to bring the image closer to my original concept.
Following a friend’s recommendation I subscribed to a magazine that sadly no longer exists, Digital Photo art. The magazine encouraged avant-garde work and I was extremely inspired by the sheer creativity of work submitted by the photographers who were competing for top honours within the magazines competitive league structure. Their images spurred me on to develop a more contemporary feel for my work and I soon began to learn new and exciting ways to be creative and individual. I think this was more of a subconscious way of learning to see rather than just looking. In 2005 I was rewarded with the title Digital Photo art Division One Photographer of the Year. I have also had some of my work published as front covers for magazines: these are illustrated below. Wanting to build on this success, over a two-year period I completed two separate panels of work, one was for a Fellowship distinction with the Royal Photographic Society and the other was for a Masters distinction with the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. I have to say that to be awarded both a Fellowship and a Masters distinction will always remain one of my proudest moments. The completed panels of work can be seen in the appropriate section of this website.
My energy is now directed towards creating new images for competing in the many national and international photographic salons. These events are a perfect stage for photographic art and I am very fortunate to have been awarded several gold medals in recognition of my work
